Soccer Drills-Tactical
Exercises on the Field
If you’re looking for
more drills to do with
your soccer team before
the big game, you may
want to try a couple of
tactical exercises on
the field before game
time. Here are some
exercises you and your
team may want to try.
There are also a couple
of exercises you can do
with a couple of friends
to help with
coordination.
Four vs. Four
This exercise will
strengthen your support
and teamwork, while
teaching you to focus on
your form and speed. The
team is divided into
smaller groups of four
for a regular scrimmage,
and the goals are marked
three yards apart from
on another. Players must
concentrate on playing
in a diamond formation
to make goals. After a
few minutes, it may be a
good idea to switch
teams, so that you can
get used to everyone’s
playing style and
techniques.
Four Goals
For this tactical
scrimmage, two teams
will play on a field
that is 50 yards wide
and 50 yards long. Four
small goals should be
set up in the middle of
each side, and the two
teams guard the adjacent
goals. This exercise
will teach your team to
change points of attack
often, as well as
defensive strategies
that will keep the
opposing teams from
scoring.
Dribblers Dream
Players are divided into
two teams, and each
player must dribble the
ball before an opponent
before passing or trying
to make a goal. This is
a tactical exercise that
will help to improve
leg/eye coordination, as
well as give players
pointers on how to
handle the ball in case
the goal is not
extremely close.
If
you’re not practicing
these exercises during
soccer practice, talk to
your soccer coach about
ways to include these
drills in your practice
time. And, when you’re
practicing on your own,
try these exercises with
a couple of
friends—you’ll feel much
more comfortable at your
next soccer practice,
and you may even win
your next game!
